Heck Yeah, Dinosaur Planet!

A blog dedicated to the cancelled Nintendo 64 game Dinosaur Planet,
which was instead released as Star Fox Adventures on the Gamecube.

Aside from images, fanart, and videos of the game, this blog will also post some articles, research, theories, and other interesting media on this scrapped gem. Occasionally, some media related to Star Fox Adventures and other cancelled Rareware games will be posted here.

Any questions? Feel free to ask me!   Got something to show us?

Some more DP text, mostly from the more snowy areas.

Bluh bluh, I’m bored and I’ve neglected to put any textrip stuff in the queue. Not much here; despite the fact that I’ve still got quite a few more textrip stuff to post, I’ve been rather busy with other things in real life, so I haven’t been able to refill the queue. My apologies. Hope this suffices.

“I sure hope Randorn’s right about this place.”
“If the Prince doesn’t turn up soon,”
“I think I might freeze to death.”
[DP text, probably referring to Ice Mountain. Yep.]

“Hey scaleface, pick on someone your own size!”
“What … Who’s that?”
“I am Fox McCloud, Royal Knight of the Lylat System. I’ve come to take the Prince back to his … home?”
“Hey wait!”
[The whole Sabre-to-Fox swap is already obvious, but as far as “Lylat System” in concerned, in DP, it was orginally the planet “Animus”, which was Sabre’s home planet. Also, it should be noted that Dinospeak wasn’t originally in Dinosaur Planet; that was a SFA addition.]

“So the wolf thinks he’s fast.”
“Wanna race SharpClaw?”

“Rules are simply… first to bottom… wins.”

“Wolf too scared to race?”

“You were lucky that time.”
“Wanna harder challenge?”

“You’re too slow wolf boy.”
“Wanna try again?”

“We race again.”
“This time wolf must smash all of the crates.”

“Wolf too fast.”
“Take this and leave SharpClaw alone.”
[I think I should mention that one of my pet peeves is anyone calling Sabre anything other than a wolf. He’s a wolf. It’s canon. Back on topic, apparently the Ice Mountain race was a bit extended (for lack of better wording) in DP; after completing the first race to rescue Tricky, if you go to Ice Mountain again, you’d be able to compete against the Sharpclaw racers again, and get an award of some sort after winning several times. In SFA, you could go to Ice Mountain and race the Sharpclaws again, though it’s the same race as the first time to recsue Tricky, and you got nothing out of it. Funfacts.]

“Tricky are you crazy. Just leave the SharpClaws to me.”
“OK OK. I’m sorry.”
“Look, my father’s been teaching me something.”
“These are my sidekick commands. By using these I can help you in lots of ways.”
“If you press the “
“you can activate this menu.”
“Now press it again to highlight the command you want me to do.”
“Now press “
“to activate.”
[Text from DP that was different in SFA, from after you stop the Sharpclaws from attacking Tricky in the Snowhorn Wastes and learn the Heel command. How do I know it’s from DP? In SFA, the sidekick commands were accessed with the C-stick, while in DP it uses the C buttons. Console differences, I know, but I’m just saying.]

“Aaaaahh. That hit the spot.”
“Tell you what young ‘un. I’ll help you out.”
“There you are my Boy,”
“this is a map of SnowHorn Wastes.”
“You can collect Maps from other Dinosaur Tribes.”
“I’m sure they’ll be useful on your adventures.”
[Not sure if this would be originally from DP or from an early SFA build (Rare did a lot of search-and-replace for some things, so Snowhorn Wastes in here would have originally have been the Northern Wastes). Apparently, some maps in the game couldn’t be bought, but could be obtained from various characters in the game after completing certain tasks. In the final SFA build, after feeding the Snowhorn in Snowhorn Wastes, you got a Scarab bag. Maps in the final build could only be purchased from Shabunga’s store and found nowhere else.]

“You’re lucky it’s a hot spring or you’d be frozen by now.”
“Why you little …”
“Hey, I wouldn’t if I were you, my dad’s a King EarthWalker and he’ll bash you up!”
“I don’t think he’ll be doing any bashing, he’s been captured.”
“That’s why I’ve been sent to rescue you!”
“He’s been captured?”
“That’s right! So stop moaning and let’s get you back to your home!”
[Probably from Dinosaur Planet, due to the lack of Dinospeak. Jeez, Sabre, rude much?]

“I cannot thank you enough for releasing me. Take this as a reward.”
“I found it whilst working yesterday. It looked important so I hid it from the SharpClaws.”
“Thanks. This belonged to my Father.”
“If you’re heading for the Mine then please look out for the Guardian’s daughter.”
“Her bravery alone saved us from certain death at the hands of General Scales.”
[Forgot to add this excerpt in the compilation of Darkice Mines texts. Text from DP that was slightly modified in the final SFA build.]
